Our Story

We are Joshua and Kali Fontanilla, founders of Exodus Institute, and Young Patriots Academy. As former public school teachers, we witnessed firsthand the challenges facing America’s education system—declining standards, divisive ideologies, and a growing disconnect from traditional values. After years of teaching in public and Christian schools, we realized reform from within wasn’t enough. We left our careers, used our savings, and moved to Florida to build a solution: Exodus Institute, a K-12 online school dedicated to teaching traditional American values for the 21st century.

Our mission is to empower parents and students with an education that prioritizes truth, character, and critical thinking. We offer two programs to meet families where they are:

• Full K-12 Program: A comprehensive accredited online program delivered by credentialed teachers, designed for parents seeking a complete homeschool alternative rooted in patriotic and conservative principles
• Young Patriots Academy: Our updated enrichment program for homeschooling families or students in public schools. This program offers lessons on current events, media literacy, and values-driven topics to counter mainstream narratives and foster critical thinking

Our journey wasn’t easy. We left stable careers and relocated across the country to pursue this vision. As California natives, we now call Florida home, living with our dog Eli, and our affectionate cat, Mellin. Kali, with 15 years of teaching experience, has been a vocal advocate against divisive policies like Critical Race Theory, contributing to the BLEXIT Foundation and helping stop Proposition 16 in California. Joshua, with a Master’s in Education and Business, brings his passion for history, economics, and biblical studies to lead Exodus Institute as CEO.

We’re committed to giving parents control over their children’s education with transparent, trustworthy instruction. Our curriculum includes topics like:

• History of Communism: Exploring its origins, failures, and real-world impacts
• Self-Development and Life Skills: Building character, respect, and practical skills like budgeting and job preparation
• Creation vs. Evolution: Examining scientific evidence and critical perspectives on origins
